07/03/08 - From BLABBERMOUTH:

NEVERMORE guitarist Jeff Loomis will release solo debut, "Zero Order Phase", on September 30 via Century Media Records

As a result of his invaluable contributions to NEVERMORE's trademark sound, Jeff Loomis has become one of modern metal's most recognizable guitarists and the source of many of the last decade's best riffs. Taking the classic techniques he learned from listening to legends like Jason Becker and Yngwie Malmsteen as a teen and applying his own ingenuity, he has managed to carve his own niche and create an instantly recognizable style. With the increased visibility, there has been a call by fans to record and release a solo album; an opportunity that has not presented itself with the busy schedule NEVERMORE has kept. Fortunately for those fans, the band has taken a well deserved break, leaving Loomis time to hit the studio himself to record ten blazing, instrumental metal tracks.

Robert Lang Studios played host to Loomis' first solo venture earlier this year with producer Neil Kernon and drummer Mark Arrington joining the fray. Arrington had been with NEVERMORE in 1993-94 to play on half of the songs that ended up on the band's self-titled debut, and Kernon recorded the first three NEVERMORE albums. So while there was a sense of familiarity, the reunion was refreshing and this spirit carried over into the songs themselves. Also contributing to the album are Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER), who splits solos with Loomis on "Jato Unit", Pat O'Brien from CANNIBAL CORPSE on "Cashmere Shiv", and Kernon himself playing a fretless guitar solo on the same track.

"Zero Order Phase" track listing:

01. Shouting Fire At A Funeral
02. Opulent Maelstrom
03. Jato Unit
04. Azure Haze
05. Cashmere Shiv
06. Race Against Disaster
07. Sacristy
08. Devil Theory
09. Miles of Machines
10. Departure

06/17/08 - Updated Jeff's 'Discography' and 'Gear' sections.

05/13/08 - From BLABBERMOUTH:

Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Neil Kernon (NEVERMORE, CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE) has finished mixing the solo album from NEVERMORE guitarist Jeff Loomis, according to a posting on the band's official forum. The CD was recorded at the Robert Lang Studios in Richmond Beach, Washington with Mark Arrington (ex-NEVERMORE) handling the drums. The ambitious offering is "an all-instrumental effort [that] is destined to shed some much deserved spotlight on the genre's most notable, yet unsung, guitar player," according to a press release.

Loomis previously said: "Mark completed the drums for 10 tracks in about three and a half days. He did some incredible drum work that I know will bring this record to a higher level than I expected.

"Mark and I worked before back in 1993-94 when he played half the songs on our [NEVERMORE's] debut CD."

"Being able to do this entire recording with Neil is really amazing as well. We've done some great work in the past, but being able to focus on an entire instrumental record is going to be great."

03/25/08 - Jeff Loomis Solo Project Studio Report:

05/30/06 - From Steve Smyth, for immediate release, May 30, 2006:

"It is with deep regret that I will not be able to perform at any of European festivals over the next week with Nevermore, as I am now in the hospital being treated with dialysis. The total kidney failure that I thought was a few months away has already happened. I am extremely disappointed with this situation, but there is nothing I can do. I wish the guys in Nevermore all the best and hope that as many of you fans as possible give them your support in Europe."

04/30/06 - Important message regarding Steve Smyth:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, APRIL 30TH, 2006

NEVERMORE GUITARIST DIAGNOSED WITH KIDNEY DISEASE, LIMITED TOUR PLANS ANNOUNCED

Nevermore guitarist Steve Smyth has been recently diagnosed with end stage kidney failure, the result of a congenital birth defect.

Says Smyth: I have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, and have been advised to preserve my health as much as possible at this time, as I am facing complete renal failure within six months, and ultimately, a transplant. Due to my recently diagnosed condition, I have decided not to join the band on the In Flames US tour. I want to be fair to the fans, and be able to give them a show I know I can deliver night after night. I will, however, join Nevermore on all four of the European festivals on our itinerary in early June: Gods of Metal, Rock Hard, Rott Fest, and Sweden Rock, after which, the doctors should have some news about the next step in my treatment. I will say this: I will fight this, and I will be back!

Jag Panzer guitarist Chris Broderick will fill in for Smyth on the upcoming US tour, after which Smyth will rejoin the band for the aforementioned European festival dates. For more from Smyth about his health situation and future career plans, please visit www.stevesmyth.com

Pamela Moore and Jeff

02/10/06 - Jeff will make a guest appearance on the new Pamela Moore album. Below is a post by Neil Kernon, producer, on February 8th, 2006:

"I thought that it was probably most appropriate to post here first that Jeff played on the new Pamela Moore album that I just finished mixing, and in fact have been producing on and off (based on Pam's touring schedule with the Queensryche lads) since early July last year.

Originally, Jeff wasn't available in our initial session time slot to do the rhythm tracks, so we decided to try to catch up with him later in the year (this last December in fact, after Nevermore's touring also wound down) so he could do the solo guitars. We sent him the material early so he could go over it and he dug it so much that we ended up making the decision to re-record the rhythm guitars with him as well, and gave us the inimitable Loomis groove on the tracks. Wonderful job all round actually. I think there will be many people out there that will really enjoy what he gave to this project.

At one point in the proceedings Warrel was also very kindly going to make a guest appearance on a track, but in the end scheduling didn't allow it to materialise. Thanks for your interest anyway Warrel!"

01/09/06 - Congrats to Jeff on making the Top 5 for BEST NEW TALENT and BEST SHREDDERS in Guitar World, per the Readers Poll! Woo-hoo! (Thanks, guitarguru777)

05/25/05 - Added GIGANTOUR dates in the TOUR section!

05/18/05 - You may have heard that Jeff recently met up with Dave Mustaine and John Petrucci for a Guitar World photo shoot. Here are the details from Blabbermouth:

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site:

"Yesterday [May 17] was the first official roundtable interview and photoshoot for Gigantour and it consisted of myself, John Petrucci from DREAM THEATER, and Jeff Loomis from NEVERMORE.

"It was great to see, meet, or re-introduce myself to these two guitar monsters. I feel that the interview went great and I got a chance to break the ice with the two guys, ask how their other bandmates were doing, give them a first-hand account of what I hope to achieve this summer, and ask them to help me learn some more guitar licks.

"I think they were surprised that I asked, but these are two great guitarists, and I have never felt comfortable asking anyone for pointers; pretty lame if you think about the players that I have been graced with.

"I also was listening to more bands to take a look at for Gigantour and the second stage. I will have an update on hopefully one more band that I am confirming soon, and I have withdrawn the offer to CHILDREN OF BODOM, due to their having conflicts with schedules evidently. They said they have some dates that interfere with doing this, and cannot join Gigantour. I understand and wish them the very best.

"While at Guitar World headquarters I also did a video guitar lesson for the song 'Symphony of Destruction'. I was a lil nervous because this was only the second time that I have done this, but I am getting over it. J

"After that I went over to VH1 to do an interview for VH1 radio. That was a fun interview because there were a lot of other questions outside of Gigantour and MEGADETH.

"We have also made some additions of concert dates for the West Coast and South West, some of which are in the beginning of the tour, and some at the end. We will announce these as soon as possible.

"Lastly, we are adding to the preliminary music loop on the home page of Gigantour.com tomorrow to include the first stage bands and should be able to make this very kewl, as well as continuing to gather pictures from the other artists.

"Feel free to notify the Gigantour.com webmaster if you may have any photos to help us out of your favorite band(s). Please let him know BEFORE you send him anything."

05/10/05 - The release date for Nevermore's new album is July 26, 2005. It is entitled "This Godless Endeavor". Click here to view the new album cover.

05/08/05 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIM SHEPPARD!

04/05/05 - From the official Megadeth site:

DAVE MUSTAINE'S 'GIGANTOUR'
SET TO LAUNCH IN LATE JULY;
DREAM THEATER, FEAR FACTORY,
DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN AND NEVERMORE
CONFIRMED TO JOIN MEGADETH ON THE MAINSTAGE
FOR SIX-WEEK NORTH AMERICAN TREK

APRIL 5, 2005

It's called GIGANTOUR, and it's the brainchild of MEGADETH frontman/guitarist DAVE MUSTAINE.

Set to launch in late July, GIGANTOUR is a six-week festival trek co-headlined by MEGADETH and DREAM THEATER, who'll be accompanied by other mainstage acts Fear Factory, Dillinger Escape Plan and Nevermore. Artists for the second stage will be announced in the coming weeks.

GIGANTOUR follows MEGADETH's sold-out 2004 "Blackmail The Universe" Tour in support of 2004's THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED--MEGADETH's tenth studio album--which debuted on the charts at #18 and was critically hailed as a brilliant return to form. Bandmates Glen Drover (guitar), James MacDonough (bass) and Shawn Drover (drums) will once again join MUSTAINE on the road.

GIGANTOUR--whose moniker was inspired by the classic 1960's cartoon "Gigantor"--will criss-cross North America, with stops in amphitheatres and arenas in cities including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Montreal, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, Denver and Minneapolis, among others. The tour is implementing the "fan friendly" ticket price of approximately $35 each. MUSTAINE notes: "I think people may want an affordable alternative to the choices out there--along the lines of a pure music festival--like Monsters of Rock or Clash of the Titans."

MUSTAINE handpicked the bands for GIGANTOUR, with a focus on musicianship. "There are few very successful tours out each summer and in order to be significant, I knew the first Gigantour had to make an impact with top bands like DREAM THEATER, Fear Factory, Dillinger Escape Plan and Nevermore." MUSTAINE wanted to "put together a festival that consisted of positive bands that play heavy music in a high energy environment."

MUSTAINE comments on the other bands he's chosen for the GIGANTOUR mainstage. "I think that the variety of playing styles and the credibility of the different players is really exciting. I'm looking forward to spending time with DREAM THEATER--including my friend Mike Portnoy--while on the road. I think DREAM THEATER is unbelievably talented. I can't wait to see what their set list is going to be for this festival."

Mike Portnoy from DREAM THEATER comments on the band's perspective on the tour. "I think we probably bring some diversity to the bill, because we're kind of like chameleons--we can fit into a lot of different situations. We've done shows in the past with Iron Maiden, Slayer and Pantera, and then we've also done shows with Elton John, Yes and Deep Purple. I think our fan base is very diverse like that too." Portnoy sees GIGANTOUR as a "kind of a meeting of musicians and metal-heads." He adds: "I've been listening to MEGADETH since day one and always admired them and Dave as an artist--he's constantly stuck to his guns and stuck by the music he believes in. MEGADETH are one of the pioneers of the genre." GIGANTOUR marks the first U.S. leg of DREAM THEATER dates in support of their forthcoming release OCTAVARIUM, due out June 7 on Atlantic Records.

MUSTAINE first toured with Fear Factory in 1994. "I think Fear Factory and Dillinger Escape Plan are really going to add something different to the tour and bring some new people in." He continues, "The frontman of Nevermore [Warrel Dane] used to be in a band called Sanctuary and I produced their first record."

MUSTAINE is excited to hit the road and has a positive outlook for GIGANTOUR. "I look forward to watching this develop over the years and seeing how we can turn this into something that's going to stand the test of time. And if this works, and it really works, maybe we'll take it elsewhere."

Stay tuned for tour dates, venues and information about the second stage bands to be announced soon and check www.megadeth.com for additional updates.

03/11/05 - A post by Warrel Dane: "Just a quick update... I did the main vox tonight for a song called "Final Product" all the drums and rhythm guitars are done, just doing vocals, bass, and acoustic guitars at the moment..."

Statement from Nevermore:
"After touring since 1995 with a number of different guitarists in the second slot NEVERMORE are happy to announce that we have added Steve Smyth on a permanent basis, the revolving door has been retired! After awhile touring with Steve it became obvious to us that he was the missing link in our dysfunctional brotherhood! So now we approach the future officially as a five-piece band!"

Statement from Steve Smyth:
"I'm happy to take up the challenge of playing with these guys," he said in a statement. "I've always loved the music, and we get along well as musicians and friends. I really look forward to contributing on a creative level, and everything so far just feels really positive."

03/26/04 - News regarding NEVERMORE from the Century Media Records site:

After much controversy the Seattle-based band NEVERMORE have officially re-signed with Century Media Records worldwide and are now preparing for a slew of activity in support of Enemies of Reality, their latest effort. The dynamic quartet will embark on a headlining U.S. tour this summer with support acts to be announced soon. NEVERMORE wrapped up a highly successfully tour alongside Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom and Hypocrisy last fall and look forward to getting back on the road and being able to play a longer set. The group will also be featured on the upcoming New England Metal and Hardcore Festival DVD compilation. Enemies of Reality, their fifth full-length release, showcases the band?s aggressive songwriting style with a dizzying array of solos, easily satisfying any metal fan?s expectations. A video clip for the track ?I, Voyager? will also be shot early next month.

Warrel Dane (vocals) checks in with the following update, ?The members of NEVERMORE would like to announce that after long negations, we have re-signed to Century Media Records. Both sides worked very hard to repair past problems and in the end, after fielding numerous offers, we felt this was the best to carry us into our future. We are currently writing new songs in our downtime and preparing for our first release under our new contract. We have four solid songs down at the moment and hope to hit the studio in early fall. In the meantime, we will be doing some major festivals in Europe, a headlining U.S. tour and a new video. All is well in NEVERMORE, and expect another major announcement to be made soon.?
